Overdose

This piece is a rescore for the overdose scene in Pulp Fiction, where Mia collapses and Vincent frantically attempts to revive her. The chaotic, overlapping dialogue felt inherently rhythmic to me, so I translated it into jazz syncopation. Each character involved in the crisis is represented by a distinct drum part, while a walking double bass maintains a continuous groove, reflecting Vincent’s forced composure.

Rather than breaking the pulse, I let the groove intensify through added layers and sharper accents as the scene escalates. When the adrenaline injection occurs, the music returns to the main theme, pushing the scene toward its narrative climax. Immediately after the syringe strike, the score drops into silence, allowing the sound design to take over. The quiet return of the hi-hat as Mia revives closes the musical cycle and releases the tension.
